Sports & recreation facilities
We want to encourage our community to lead active and healthy lives. Murray River Council manages 12 playing fields and a significant number of parklands where sport and leisure activities take place. We also provide for both active and passive recreational opportunities with facilities such as the Moama Botanic Gardens, multiple skate parks, cycling and walking paths and boat ramps.
Management of sports fields
Our maintenance schedule is designed make our sports fields available to the widest number of user groups throughout the year. Our team conducts turf and irrigation maintenance, and manages the general wear and tear of these sites around game days, practice sessions, finals seasons, transition between winter and summer sports, and casual use of the grounds. Some sports fields and recreation facilities are managed and maintained by Section 355 committees, who are responsible for bookings and maintenance.
Turf and irrigation maintenance and water efficiency
To provide great playing surfaces for a range of sporting activities, we use a variety of technologies, turf maintenance skills and equipment. Where possible, we use recycled water to save water and reduce costs. We also maintain the efficiency of our sprinklers, use a centrally controlled computer system and rain sensors, detect and repair faults as soon as possible and choose warm season turf varieties.
