Your obligations

When choosing a new pet to become part of your family you need to consider whether you have the time to provide a happy, loving and secure home, will it suit your lifestyle, what environment will the pet be housed in and last but not least can you afford the costs of owning a pet.

The NSW Office of Local Government provide some helpful advice on What should you consider when buying a pet?

If you decide to take on a pet then you are accepting a duty of care for its lifetime welfare.

Don't forget when you bring your new pet home, help it to gradually adjust to you and your family, its new surroundings and its new routine.

To fully understand your obligations of owning a pet view the Companion Animals Act 1998.
