Mobile food business permit

Any business that handles food must be registered with Council.

This includes restaurants, cafes, food trucks, coffee vans, market stalls, caterers, home-based food businesses, childcare centres, bakeries, delicatessens, fruit shops, convenience stores, takeaways, school canteens, supermarkets and hotels.

Mobile food businesses and food trucks must follow the NSW Food Authority’s Guidelines for Mobile Food Vending Vehicles . These guidelines cover everything from setting up a mobile food business to permits and day-to-day operation.

Council inspects all mobile food vehicles that are based in the Murray River Council area. Fees apply for inspections.

When lodging your application:

  • Make sure you have your business details on hand, including your trading name.
  • You will also need details of your nominated Food Safety Supervisor, including their certificate number.
  • You will need to provide your vehicle registration number

Are you from another council area?

  • Make sure you also have your registration certificate from your home Council.
  • You will also need copy of your latest food safety inspection report. If an inspection report from within the last 12 months can’t be provided then you will need to contact us to arrange an inspection. This inspection will incur a fee in line with our Fees and Charges listed in our current Revenue Policy.
