Council works to ensure all food being sold in the community is safe.
Council undertakes the following functions in relation to food safety:
Most businesses that produce or handle food for sale in NSW must officially notify either the NSW Food Authority or their local council. This allows government food agencies to assess food handling risks and maintain a relationship with food businesses.
Council is required to 'risk classify' all food premises. Find out more about the High, Medium, or Low Risk classifications.
All home-based food businesses must notify and register with Murray River Council prior to operating.
The NSW Food Authority has a range of fact sheets available to answer all your questions relating to operating a food business.
