Murray River Council has produced a suite of development and building checklists to guide the community through the application process on the NSW Planning Portal.

The comprehensive checklists and supporting information sheets will assist the applicant through all the steps and necessary information needed when lodging applications online.

Online lodgement became mandatory in all NSW councils from July 1, 2021.

Staff have developed the tools to not only ensure customers know what to prepare and the steps involved, but to also alleviate delays in the overall process.

“Having all the right information at hand goes a long way to streamlining the assessment and approval process,” Mayor Chris Bilkey said.

“Whilst we appreciate that the sheer scale of development in our council puts pressure on turnaround times, we often find delays can be caused from little things such as a missing document or signature from the customer which is needed to process things further.”

“These checklists should alleviate a lot of these issues and make the online application process smoother for all involved.”

The checklists and fact sheets offer a step-by-step guide to lodging various development or building applications online, fee quote information, as well as waste and environmental impact factors that need to be addressed.

Cr Bilkey said staff had put a lot of time and effort into providing clear and concise checklists, with more still on their way.

“We understand that customers get frustrated with the red tape and timeframes involved in development applications; we certainly get frustrated by the system at times too.”

“So we’ve developed these materials to hopefully alleviate some of the complexities in the process and to help make sure you have all your ducks in a row before you start your application.”

Development and Building Checklists are now available via council’s website and are mandatory for all applications.
