Murray River Council is offering free bags of compost at its local waste management facilities.

The compost has been processed from waste collected via council’s FOGO kerbside collection service.

Mayor Chris Bilkey said this is a great way to show residents the full value of disposing of their green waste properly.

“The production of high-quality compost is a great result for both our FOGO program and our community.”

“By disposing of food and garden scraps in the green bins, we are now turning this waste into a valuable, locally-made resource.”

All FOGO collected via Council's kerbside waste collection is transported via a contractor to the Biomix composting facility in Stanhope.

After around 12 weeks the composting process is complete, resulting in a natural, environmentally friendly fertiliser and soil conditioner.

Biomix compost is nutritionally dense and can be used in many home gardens to improve the health of plants, veggie patches and lawns.

So next time you are at one of council’s waste facilities, ask about picking up a free bag of Biomix compost.

Your garden will love you for it!

Available while supplies last.
