Residents can choose their own planet-saving adventure when the Garage Sale Trail, Australia’s festival of pre-loved stuff, kicks off in the local area next month.

Garage Sale Trail 2022 will take place over the four weekends from 29 October to 20 November.

Made locally possible by Murray River Council and the NSW EPA, the festival encourages residents to sell, shop and learn about the circular economy process.

Council’s Director Planning and Environment, Rod Croft said the event was a fun way for residents to connect, make some money and stop good items going to landfill or being illegally dumped.

“Keeping items used for as long as we can by buying or selling at a garage sale makes sense for the planet and makes cents for participants.”

“The circular economy concept is an extension to the old saying that “one person’s trash, is another person’s treasure”, this is the circular economy in action and it’s an easy activity residents can get behind.”

Between 29 October and 5 November, the Murray River Council community can be part of the Trail Tutorials; a series of inspiring and educational talks all about sustainable fashion and renovations.

Featuring Barry Du Bois, Annabel Crabb and Craig Reucassel—alongside experts in fashion, home renovations and the circular economy—the sessions are hosted online and free to attend.

Then, there will be garage sales over two weekends hosted simultaneously around the nation where people can declutter and sell pre-loved goods or shop the trail on 12-13 and 19-20 November.

“It’s garage sales made easy with supplied tips, resources and advertising; so we are encouraging people to sign up and get involved,” Mr Croft said.
