Murray River Council will soon be home to an outdoor Art Trail with large-scale art installations set to be painted on some local silos and water towers.

Spread out across seven locations - Barham, Bunnaloo, Caldwell, Mathoura, Moulamein, Tooleybuc and Wakool - the sites will collectively make up what will be known as the River Country Art Trail.

Whilst planning for the project has been underway for some time, it can now be brought to life thanks to $1.7 million of funding awarded under Round Two of the NSW Government’s Regional Tourism Activation Fund.

Mayor, Chris Bilkey said this will be an exciting new project that will create an outdoor gallery trail across the area’s smaller townships.

“The Art Trail is an exciting project for our region and an example of how creativity can revitalise existing local assets.”

“As the project develops, it will also offer an opportunity to connect with local communities as we create concepts for the works and develop these exciting new attractions across our region.”

The Art Trail concept and installation stage will commence in Barham later this year, then progress across the region over the next 3 years.

Council will undertake community consultation to capture local ideas and themes for the art, then appoint specialist artists to undertake the works.

“The Art Trail will add another exciting visitor experience to our local townships,” Cr Bilkey added.

“I look forward to seeing the vibrant colours and innovative designs that will soon grace our local towns.”
