Koraleigh’s tennis courts will soon shine brighter thanks to funding received to undertake LED lighting updates.
Murray River Council was awarded $60,126 under the NSW Government’s Female Friendly Community Sport Facilities and Lighting Grants Program to complete the works.
LED lights will be retrofitted to existing towers across the four courts and clubhouse to help reduce power consumption and allow the club to play evening matches.
Murray River Council mayor, Cr Chris Bilkey said the lighting upgrades will be a welcome improvement for the tennis club.
“The lighting at the courts will go a long way to encourage increased usage of the area through better lighting at night, whilst also ensuring the running costs become much more economical,” he said.
“Improvements like this help ensure our local recreation reserves remain an integral part of sport and community development in our local area for years to come.”
The lighting upgrades were identified as a priority project by the local community.
Koraleigh Tennis Club Representative, Cassie Andrews said the club is excited by the funding announcement.
“We’re grateful to council staff for helping us secure this funding; it’s just really great news,” Cassie said.
“We are looking forward to being able to play at night again. We are also really hoping it will bring the women in the community together.”
Upgrades are expected to be completed over the coming months.
The NSW Government has committed up to $25 million to the Female Friendly Community Sport Facilities and Lighting Upgrades Grant Program to help supports female participation through increased opportunity and increased safety.
