Mathoura land a step closer to development

Murray River Council is another step closer to developing and subdividing Council-owned land on the corners of Cobb Highway, Jones and Mathoura Street in Mathoura.

At its council meeting on Tuesday Council resolved to commit $130,000 to progress the survey, planning and comprehensive engineering design to gather detailed construction costs for the potential residential development.

This follows the feasibility report received by Council late last year which showed viability in the project should Council wish to progress.

Following the commitment of funds, Council will now progress with detailed planning works including functional layout modification, topographic surveying, detailed engineering design, service authority design (electricity, communications) and contractor procurement.

These works will take place over the next several months to enable council to budget the next stage of construction costs in upcoming financial years.

Mayor Chris Bilkey said the proposal was a positive step for further development in the town.

“Mathoura is a central location between major towns like Echuca/Moama and Deniliquin, so it makes sense to properly plan for future development now so that we can encourage growth in the township in the near future.”

“This project presents a great opportunity to enhance the township and get investment into the town.”
