Murray River Council will continue under the leadership of Mayor Chris Bilkey until the December Local Government election, following Tuesday’s mayoral election.

Cr Nikki Cohen also retained her position as Deputy Mayor, with both being elected unopposed.

The current council term ends on the rescheduled local government election date of December 4.

With 9 councillor positions up for grabs, Cr Bilkey said a robust pool of candidates is needed to ensure a good cross-section of local voices.

"Local residents know their local community, understand what's needed and the importance of a local voice in decision making.”

“It would be great for all our communities to have solid representation from right across the council, so I’d encourage anyone interested in nominating to jump online now and get ready for the nomination period, “Cr Bilkey said.

Key dates for candidates include:

  • Candidate nominations open on Monday 25 October 2021
  • Closing of nominations on Wednesday 3 November 2021
  • NSW Local Government Election Day on 4 December 2021
