Murray River Council has adopted an updated Media Policy, with the community now invited to have a say on the draft document.

With the previous Media Relations Policy last adopted in 2018, the updated Policy offers a comprehensive framework to guide council's interactions between authorised spokespersons and both traditional and online / social media outlets.

Murray River Council mayor, Chris Bilkey said the policy recognises the critical role that the media plays in circulating information to the public.

“The development of this new Media Policy underscores our dedication to enhancing communication practices and providing reliable and timely information to the public through the media.”

“We’ve taken proactive steps to establish a policy that aligns with modern communication practices and reflects all media platforms including print, online, TV and radio.”

Cr Bilkey said the policy outlines protocols for councillors and staff when dealing with media inquiries, information sharing and interviews.

“It’s all about having processes in place to facilitate timely and accurate communication with the media and the community” he said.

The updated Media Policy is on display for a period of 28 days and can be access via council’s website.
