Murray River Council is supporting young people and communities across the council with new pop-up Youth Hubs, known as Y-Hubs.

Delivered through Council’s Youth Engagement Program (YEP), the pop-up spaces will offer inclusive and judgement free spaces for youth aged 12-17 years to connect, make new friends and learn.

Barham and Moulamein are set to host the first Y-Hub sessions on Friday 8 October, with Moama launching their space on Friday 15 October.

Y-Hubs will run from 3.30-6.30 pm, with Moulamein running every Friday and Moama and Barham on a fortnightly basis.

Council’s Y-Hubs will be supervised by Council’s Youth Engagement Staff and a range of activities will be offered including games, music, Wifi, PS4's, art supplies and more.

All activities will be run in accordance with the latest COVID-safe rules and transport options will be available for youth from other towns too.

“These inclusive, supervised spaces are designed to appeal to a broad range of interests, while providing valuable opportunities for young people to connect and lead in their community,” Mayor Chris Bilkey said.

“Our Youth Engagement Program is all about encouraging young people to get involved in community life and come up with the ideas that will help us deliver new initiatives within the community; and the Y-Hubs are another great platform for this!”

“And at a time when our young people have had to remain socially isolated, it is great opportunity for them to attend and start to connect with new people again.”

Council is also calling on volunteers to help facilitate the Y-Hubs in Moama, Barham and Moulamein.

“If you’re aged 18-25, are available Friday afternoons, happy to undertake all relevant checks and have a passion for helping your community then please get in touch,” Cr Bilkey said.
