Ginny Stevens – Founder of Active Farmers

Ginny grew up on a farm in Tasmania and has always been passionate about agriculture, community and staying active.

Born in Mangoplah, Southern NSW in 2015, Active Farmers was designed to bring the entire community together through regular group fitness classes in a fun and interactive environment. The classes were designed to mimic the ‘team sport effect’ and create a sense of community and belonging.

We all know that there is a high prevalence of mental illness in the bush and our farmers are approximately twice as likely to take their lives by suicide. This is incredibly frightening and needs to change.

Today Active Farmers is a NFP Organisation and their vision is the same as it was on day one: to build stronger and more resilient farming communities.

Led by a fantastic board, three part-time staff, multiple volunteer committees and a team of 33 qualified personal trainers, Active Farmers exists in over 45 small farming communities across the country. Their trainers are out on the ground every week doing their bit to improve the health and wellbeing of their communities and collectively take over 200 classes per month with over 1500 participants.

Based on feedback and suggestions, Active Farmers has evolved to provide a variety of community-based events such as Active Farmers Games (think tough mudder for farmers), Ride for Resilience (fundraising bike rides) and Run for Resilience (fun run and walk). These events provide challenging and fun opportunities for the broader community to look forward to and enjoy.
