Murray River Council is undertaking a review of the Moulamein Flood Study, with community members now able to access and explore the updated data online.
The Moulamein Flood Study was developed in 2019, prior to the 2022 floods which saw the highest recorded levels in Moulamein.
As part of the review, consultants have gathered data from the 2022 flood event, historical reports, and valuable community feedback to help calibrate new flood models and improve mapping accuracy.
The results
Draft flood modelling results from the Moulamein Flood Study Review are now available online here: Moulamein Flood Study Review - Draft Flood Modelling Results.
This online portal includes:
- Draft flood mapping of both overland flooding (i.e. inundation from local rainfall) and riverine flooding (i.e. inundation from the Edward River, Billabong Creek and associated waterways).
- Calibration results from the 2022 riverine flood event.
The results are classified using different Annual Exceedance Probabilities (AEPs). The AEP is directly related to the magnitude of the flood event. For example:
- An AEP of 1 in 100 year (or 1% AEP) corresponds to the flood that has a 1% chance of occurring every year (6.20 m at the Moulamein Gauge)
- An AEP of 1 in 5 year (or 20% AEP) corresponds to the flood that has a 20% chance of occurring every year (5.33 m at the Moulamein Gauge)
The objective of the portal at this stage of the study is to provide the community with an update on the status of the project and allow you to view the draft results before it goes on Public Exhibition.
The Draft Flood Study Review Report will be shared with the community in the coming months where you will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the report and the draft results.
