Southern floodplain management plans information sessions

No longer on display. Expired on 16 June 2023, 12:00 PM

The Department of Planning and Environment’s Water Group is seeking recent and historical flood information from the community.

The department’s flood modelling teams will be available at face-to-face information sessions to accept flood information covering rural areas which will be used to calibrate the hydraulic models that underpin replacement southern floodplain management plans in the Murray, Murrumbidgee, Billabong Creek and Lachlan valleys.

Rural floodplain management plans are the basis for coordinating flood work development in critical areas. They map the floodways and set rules and assessment criteria for flood work approvals.

The department is seeking feedback and information about recent flood events to help develop the new floodplain management plans, including:

  • digital photos from the 2022 floods

  • historical flood imagery

  • descriptions of local flood behaviour.

You can send your information, including exact locations, dates and times, to floodplain.planning@dpie.nsw.gov.au.

You can also register to attend upcoming face-to-face sessions in Jerilderie, Deniliquin, Moama, Barham, Forbes, Condobolin, Lake Cargelligo, Hillston, Narrandera, Darlington Point, Hay and Moulamein on the department’s website.
