Waste and water monitoring
Wastewater collected from homes and businesses across the council area can contain:
- organic matter
- cleaning products like shampoo and detergents
- trade waste from commercial and industrial customers.
If left untreated, this water would harm our environment and the animals that live in it. To protect the environment, we treat wastewater to a level set by the NSW Environment Protection Agency (EPA).
We routinely check what's in the wastewater after it's treated and report this in our pollution monitoring data reports, as found below.
We also have pollution incident response plans for both our sewer treatment plants and our waste facilities to minimise and control the risk of a pollution incidents at our sites.
