Council is upgrading the main sewer pump station in Barham to improve safety, reliability and long-term service for the community.

Barham Sewer Pump Station 3 is a critical facility that manages the town’s wastewater system. The current structure, built with a dry and wet well design, no longer meets modern safety and maintenance standards.

To address these issues, Council will replace the existing facility with a modern wet well system. This upgrade will provide:

  • Improved safety for staff and contractors by meeting current OH&S and legislative standards
  • Compliance with State and Federal Government directives
  • Better access for maintenance
  • Replacement of ageing infrastructure nearing end of life
  • Greater flexibility to support future community growth.
Delivery

Council has now engaged a construction contractor to deliver the upgrade. Construction works are expected to begin around April 2026 and are anticipated to take approximately four to five months to complete.

During the construction period, part of the laneway linking Nicolls Street and Wakool Street will be temporarily closed to ensure the safety of workers and the community. Council and the contractor will work to minimise disruption and will provide further information closer to the start of works, including details on access arrangements and any potential impacts.

As part of the works, Council will fully fund the replacement of the boundary fencing around the pump station site with a 1.8‑metre high Colorbond®-style fence. This will screen the pump station from view and improve the general amenity of the area.

The pump station is located off the laneway between Punt Road and Frank Street.
