Council is progressing work on the Moama Overland Flood Study, which is investigating local rainfall and runoff in and around Moama. The study is building a rainfall-runoff computer model to help better understand areas most at risk from intense storm events, such as those experienced in January 2024 and October 2022.

Unlike flooding from the Murray River, these events involve Major Overland Flow; stormwater runoff making its way through Moama towards the river. Council is responsible for managing this type of flood risk, alongside riverine flood risk.
