Drought support service and resources

NSW DroughtHub brings together all measures the NSW Government is delivering to support farmers impacted by drought, as well as those planning for future dry periods.

The New South Wales (NSW) Government and Australian Government have dedicated significant resources to understanding and preparing for the future impacts of droughts. The following resources are aimed at helping producers plan and prepare for drought.

• The Farm Tracker App is a simple tool to help you monitor seasonal conditions on your property.
• Interactive Combined Drought Indicator Map will help you understand the emergence of drought in your area, and give you time to put plans in place.
• NSW State Seasonal Update is produced by NSW DPI to give an overview of seasonal conditions.
• A Drought Plan Template is a good resource to help you understand your current situation and what critical decisions you may need to make to prepare for drought.
• Drought and supplementary feed calculator (DPI) is an essential tool for sheep and cattle producers to develop drought feed rations as well as rations for dry periods when supplementary feeding is required.

Farm Business Resilience Program equips farmers with the tools and knowledge they need to tackle risks, respond to changing climates, and strengthen operations to build more productive, profitable and sustainable farming businesses. Combining coaching, workshops, digital learning resources - alongside valuable peer-to-peer insights captured in real-world case studies, farmers in NSW are embracing new approaches to be more resilient, innovative, and future-ready.

Local Land Services provide on the ground support, working with farmers and land managers to help improve the productivity and sustainability of land including, agricultural production, biosecurity, land management, farm forestry, natural capital and natural resource management and on-farm emergency planning. 

Rural Aid is dedicated to supporting farmers, their families, and rural communities facing droughts, fires, floods, or the daily pressures of farming, through practical and timely assistance. Rural aid offers disaster assistance, community development, and mental health programs. 

Managing Drought, Fire and Flood Guide covers strategies and actionable plans that empower farmers to make informed business decisions, while also supporting their own mental health and wellbeing, as well as that of others, so they can be better prepared and responsive.

Drought, Fire and Flood Recovery Guide  focuses specifically on the recovery phase and supports farmers navigate the complexities of bouncing back after extreme weather events. Recovery also serves as a valuable opportunity to improve future preparedness and response strategies.
