Are you looking for a role where your building and construction knowledge can make a real impact in our growing Murray River communities? Murray River Council is seeking a proactive and community‑focused Building Approvals Officer to join our Development Services Team.

About the opportunity:
As our Building Approvals Officer, you will work across a diverse range of building and development activities, contribute to improving safety and compliance, and gain exposure to a wide variety of local government functions.

Specifically, you will:

  • Assess and process Local Activity Applications, including plumbing & drainage applications, Approvals to Operate and other Section 68 applications.
  • Undertake on‑site inspections and support compliance investigations.
  • Provide accurate, helpful guidance to builders, developers, residents and internal teams.
  • Assist technical staff during inspections and attend stakeholder meetings where required.
  • Contribute to reports, records management and continuous improvement across the Development Services Team.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a mix of office‑based assessment, regulatory work and outdoor site inspections.

What you need to be successful:

  • Certificate IV in Building and Construction
  • Experience working within the building or construction industry
  • Knowledge of building legislative and regulatory requirements, including the Local Government Act 1993 and Section 68 processes
  • Current Car Driver’s Licence (Class C)      
  • Satisfactory National Police Check            
  • WHS White Card   

Remuneration and Employee Benefits

  • Salary starting at $83,985 plus superannuation.
