The Wakool Bowling Club is looking fresh thanks to funding received under the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Programme Extension.

Federal Member for Farrer, The Hon Sussan Ley MP was on hand to officially open the renovated facilities on Wednesday, joining the community for an evening of bowls and celebrations.

Murray River Council were awarded $350,000 under the Federal programme to help freshen up the much-loved sporting facility in the town.

The bowling club rooms had fallen into a state of disrepair due to extensive white ant damage and have now undergone full renovation and restoration works thanks to the funding injection.

Councillor Neil Gorey also attended the opening and said the upgrades were vital for the survival of this important social hub.

“This project will ensure long term usage of the facility whilst also delivering the opportunity to attract new community groups and more frequent competition.”

“This in turn delivers a flow-on of expenditure across businesses in the local community, which is vitally important to smaller townships during this time,” he said.

“We would like to thank the Federal Government for supporting this important community project, and the local trades who delivered the scheduled works.”

The community is encouraged to head along and enjoy the new facilities during the summer period.
