The Moulamein Community this week opened its new Heritage Village which is set to house a new information centre and showcases a number of objects and buildings that have historical significance in the local area.

After years of planning for the project, Moulamein Community Development Inc. received $568,000 under the Australian Governments Drought Communities Program to bring the project to life.

Located in Paterson St, the Moulamein Heritage village now stands as an inviting new tourist attraction that will conserve and showcase the history of the region.

Federal Member for Farrer, The Hon Sussan Ley MP joined the community at the official opening on Wednesday, which saw a ribbon cutting and afternoon tea in the new Jeraly Shed.

The federal funding contributed towards the Sheering Shed relocation and rebuild, construction of a new amenities block, and the relocation of the old school.

Murray River Councillor Neil Gorey also attended the opening and said the new Heritage Village will highlight and showcase the history of the region.

“Moulamein certainly has a great story to tell and the Heritage Village will be a living breathing experience for tourists, school children and residents alike, with the ability to offer educational programs and heritage preservation experiences.”

“The Moulamein Development Committee are to be congratulated for leading such a historically significant venture. They are a group of dynamic and innovative people who had a vision and turned that vision into reality.”

“We thank the federal Government for their support of this project and I’d encourage locals and visitors to take a look at these exciting new facilities,” he said.
