Murray River Council has announced the launch of the new Backroads Trail podcast, offering locals and visitors an opportunity to delve deeper into the Backroads Trail journey.

Featuring 22 attractions across the local landscape, the Trail extends from Echuca-Moama, Womboota, Bunnaloo, Barham Koondrook, Caldwell, Deniliquin and Mathoura.

The six-part podcast series offers another layer to the experience, with stories from people along the trail including business owners, farmers, artists and community members.

The podcast is off to an enticing start with its first episode diving into the background of the trail, its origins and connection to the land.

Murray River Council mayor, Chris Bilkey said the podcast will appeal to a wide variety of listeners.

“Whether you are looking for an introduction to the trail or to delve deeper into familiar stories, the podcast series offers something for any listener.”

“The series discusses a wide range of content, providing insight into connection to place, stories of the area, how the trail has evolved and what life is like on the Trail.”

“Many of our lifelong locals would not be aware of the stories of the area, so this is a great opportunity to delve deeper into the history and experiences.”

The podcast explores different themes through each episode, with stories told by those who know the area best.

“One of the important aspects of creating the podcast was telling the stories of the people of the trail. This expands the experience beyond just visiting locations on a map, so we encourage everyone to take a listen,” Cr Bilkey added.

Listeners will be treated to six episodes:

  • Episode 1: What is the Backroads Trail?
  • Episode 2: Life on the Land
  • Episode 3: Community on the Backroads Trail
  • Episode 4: Back to Nature and Slow Travel on the Backroads Trail
  • Episode 5: A Creative Life on the Backroads Trail
  • Episode 6: The farm grown food of the Backroads Trail and how to access it.

The Backroads Trail Podcast is available now on the Spotify App.
