Murray River Council has made the decision to close the Moulamein Courthouse Footbridge due to structural concerns.
The bridge, which was damaged during the 2022 floods, has since been monitored and recently underwent a visual inspection while water levels were low. This inspection revealed further deterioration in parts of the structure that had previously been inaccessible.
To ensure public safety, access to the bridge will now be restricted. Alternative vehicle access to the courthouse remains available via Tuppin and Murray Streets.
Council will continue with a more detailed structural assessment to determine potential repairs or replacement options.
We understand the community may also have questions about the Moulamein Wharf. This structure was also damaged in the 2022 floods and remains closed to the public. Council has secured funding for the design of a replacement wharf, and a concept design is currently nearing completion. The wharf will also be considered as part of the broader Moulamein Town Master Plan and Action Plan, which is currently being developed. These Plans will offer clear direction for the Council and the community to drive future development in the town focusing on streetscapes, infrastructure, tourism and various social projects.
