You need to get approval from Council before you do any work on public roads, footpaths, or land between a road and private property. So, if you are planning to construct or replace a driveway or crossover you must apply to council prior to commencing any works.
Things to consider:
Your application must be submitted with a site plan showing the proposed driveway and crossover in relation to the boundary (including distances to the boundary and width and length of driveway and crossover).
- Make sure you take into account measurements of the driveway and crossover and proximity to services and service lids
- Is my crossover at least 1 metre away from the boundary and/or services?
- Are there easements on my property, and have I avoided them?
- Is my crossover between 3 and 6 metres? Are these dimensions shown on the plan?
- The site plan must match the final set-up of the crossover and driveway
- The crossover must be completed in plain concrete
- My crossover must not be close to a corner or roundabout (clearance of at least 6 metres)
Application fees also apply.
