Water saving tips
Here are some handy hints on ways to save water in and around the home and workplace.
- Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth
- Limit showers to 4min or less
- Water plants in the cooler parts of the day (early morning or later in the evening)
- Wherever possible, use the half flush on the loo
- Make sure your hose is fitted with a trigger nozzle, to save water when moving locations within the garden
- Install a pool blanket to reduce evaporation
- Fix those dripping taps
- Only use as much water as you need if washing dishes by hand
- When washing clothes ensure you do full loads or adjust the load setting on your machine
- Dishwashers use less water than you think
- Scrape rather than rinse your dishes before placing them in the dishwasher
- Ensure your shower heads are efficient – water efficient shower heads use 9lt of water per minute rather than 20lt of water per minute
- Plant drought tolerant species in the garden rather than ones that require lots of water
- A leaking toilet cistern can waste upwards of 60,000lt of water every year
- Make sure you turn off the tap when you have finished watering the garden, to save a blow off of the hose when you’re not around
