Access to information

We're committed to assisting members of the community to access information about us under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act). The Act is designed to meet community expectations of more open and transparent government and encourages government agencies, like Council, to proactively release government information.

You can access our information in the following ways:

Self-search

Our website contains a range of open access information, including:

  • Plans, policies and reports
  • Council reports, agendas,  and minutes
  • Registers and returns
  • Planning and development documents and plans (Note: all development applications information will need to be accessed via the NSW Planning Portal

You can also refer to our Agency Information Guide(PDF, 2MB) which identifies how you can access the information we hold that is publicly available, routinely published and free of charge.

If you're unable to locate the information you need on our website, please contact our customer service team on 1300 087 004. The team will then follow up your request and advise whether the requested information:

  • is open access information that is already available and how you can access the information
  • can be disclosed to you through informal release
  • requires a formal access application.

 

Formal access request

If you’re seeking information from Murray River Council which is not published on our website, or is personal information of other members of the public, you can make a Formal Access Application to access this information.

Informal Access Request

Open access information that Council does not publish on the website can be accessed by completing an Informal GIPA Request application. Council will allow access to this information unless there is an overriding public interest against disclosure of the requested information.

Disclosure log

Council's Disclosure Log identifies information and documents that have been released by a formal application process.

Formal access applications received that are likely to be of interest to members of the public, will be published in the Disclosure Log.

The Disclosure log contains non-personal information.  Please note that details of an application will not be included within the Disclosure Log until the application has been decided. 

Non-disclosure log

When a request for information is made, under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act), Council must consider whether there is an overriding public interest against releasing the information. Information not released is recorded in Council's Non Disclosure Log.

Further information on how government agencies apply the public interest test when determining whether or not to release information can be obtained from the Information and Privacy Commission (IPC).
