Who is responsible for arranging a funeral?

In most instances, the next of kin are responsible for contacting and arranging the funeral of the deceased; for example, a spouse, child, parent, legal partner or sibling or the will's nominated executor.

 

How do I arrange a funeral or burial at a cemetery?

The funeral home of your choosing will contact Council with the information you have provided to them and arrangements will be organised on your behalf. The funeral director will assist with the application form and Council fees will be included in the funeral home expenses and paid to Council on your behalf.

 

How do I arrange a cremation?

The funeral home of your choosing will generally manage the crematorium and with the information you have provided to them, arrangements will be organised on your behalf. If you wish to have cremated remains placed at one of Councils cemeteries you will need to complete our burial / cremated remains interment application and return to council. 

 

How do I arrange to have cremated remains placed in a memorial wall at a cemetery?

If you wish to have cremated remains placed in one of Councils Memorial Walls you will need to contact Council on 1300 087 004, when you are ready for this to occur.

 

Can I bury cremated remains into an existing plot?

If you have cremated remains you wish to place into an existing grave located in one of our cemeteries, you will need to complete our burial / cremated remains interment application and return to council. 

Please note: Any new interments (including cremated remains) to an existing grave, must be approved by the Interment Right Owner. Our staff will discuss your specific enquiry and work with you to find the best solution.

 

How do I get a headstone/plaque installed or modified?

Please contact Council on 1300 087 004 or email admin@murrayriver.nsw.gov.au and our staff can discuss the details with you.  Please be aware, the only person that can make changes to an existing plaque or monument or add a new plaque/monument to an existing grave is the Interment Right Owner. Our staff will work with you to work out the best solution depending on your specific enquiry.

 

How do I transfer an existing Interment Right?

To transfer an existing interment right please complete the application form

I am a Monumental Mason and would like to amend or erect a monument in one of MRC cemeteries- how do I do this?

In order to make changes to an existing monument or erect a new one, permission is required.
